Champion of Champions Judging Day

Yesterday, Tue 26 July, was an important day for us in Sherborne in Bloom. Judge Jon Wheatley, a top dog in South West in Bloom, came to judge us for the Champion of Champions competition. We’ve been entered into this because we won the Preece Cup last year as the Best Small Town in the South West.

This picture shows the team who met Jon at the Castle with the lake in the background. Although it looks like he’s presenting the cup we’re actually giving it back to him because we’ve held it for a year 😉

We took Jon all around the town, showing him the sights which we hoped might WOW him: the station, the Pageant Garden, the Abbey, the Boys’ School, the Yeatman Hospital Willows Garden, Cheap Street with all the hanging baskets, Swan Yard, Cheap St Church Quiet Garden, the Community Mural  – and more besides. We ended up in the Paddock Garden where we met many of our Friends and supporters and we all had a lovely buffet lunch which was provided by Waitrose.

Jon seemed very impressed with Sherborne, but we won’t know the results until October. But all in all a very positive day and we’re all keeping our fingers securely crossed!
